Dear Facebook,

I used to really like you. When I first signed up, it was great getting to see old friends and family who I had lost touch with over the years, and to see how their lives have turned out so far. I believe that was your original intent, and what a great idea it was! But lately, things seem to have changed between us. This is not your fault, maybe I have just evolved as a person…but lately all I have been seeing on you is a bunch of CRAP! I “only” have 107 Facebook friends…because these are people that really matter in my life, and I could probably cut out about 20 of them! I don’t just add someone because they are a friend of a friend who I spoke with one time at bar …or we were in the same Biology class in high school….or we worked together for  couple of months one time….and we didn’t talk then! I really don’t get those people that have 900 or more “friends”…really? Do you seriously care about all of those people, and do you think they care about you?…If you saw them in “real life”, would you even stop to say hi? Think about that…but you have no problem sharing your life story with them?

Some things that have really turned me off about Facebook…all of this “Liking” everything.. It has gotten ridiculous! I understand why a company who is selling something wants you to like them..they can generate more revenue by saying “look at all the people who like our product”. But pressing like for things like the list below..which I always see…drive me nuts!

Press “like” if you: Hate cancer…love your children..love your mom…love the United States…love waffles…love summer…love winter…love breathing clean air…love drinking cold water…love sleeping at night…love animals…love the beach…love puppets…love balloons…love condoms that don’t break…love beer…love the color blue…love extra cheese on your pizza…

You get what I am saying. What is the point of “liking’ something like that? To tell the world “Hey, I love my mom AND I love waffles”? Is there anybody out there who doesn’t think cancer sucks, or that doesn’t love their kids?  Do you really need to press “like” so people know this? When you press “Like” when told to if you like chocolate ice cream, do you look through the list of other people who also pressed “Like”? Do you then message them and talk about how much you like chocolate ice cream? If not, what is the point…..

Another thing that bugs me on Facebook is when people post something like this…”I want to wish a Happy Birthday to my daughter Michelle, who just turned five today. Mommy loves you very much, and I hope you have a great day!”…Ok..your five year old daughter Michelle doesn’t have a Facebook account. So why are you writing something to her that she will obviously never see? Now your “true friends” would know that it is your daughters birthday …so I am guessing that you posted this just to get some attention, or to see how many “likes” you will get, or to tell your friends that you love your daughter…why? You can insert anything in place of birthday…”Congratulations Timmy on getting a hit in little league today, you make me so proud” or “Congratulations Waldo on getting an “A” on your science fair project, you worked really hard and deserved it!”…if your kids aren’t friends with you on Facebook, why are you writing “Congratulations or Happy Birthday”  to them, when they will never see the post?

People don’t even need to really “talk” (if you consider typing words to someone “talking”) anymore on Facebook…just press Like”…no need to share your opinion or to even say a few words…….

Ok, I am done with my rant. I have no plans on deleting my Facecook account…as matter of fact, I am going to post this blog there right now!… Just don’t send me any invites to play ANYTHING! (that’s another issue that I won’t even address right now) As always , thanks for taking a few minutes of your day to read my ramblings…and don’t forget to press “LIKE”!
